The current administration’s proposed budget cuts for active-duty military personnel and military retirees are eminent – but not civilian defense workers.
Effective 1 January 2013, the military budget will be reduced by $500 billion per year.
There will be pay reductions, benefit cuts, and massive layoffs — or in military language RIFs–reduction in force. Can you imagine over 1 million service members sent packing?
If recruits were hoping for a 20 year career in the military, and ony 17% of entering recruits ever make it to retirement, they can forget that under the Obama administration.
Obama has tipped his hand. He’s showing the entire country what he thinks about our military service people. Here are the details of the story broken by the intrepid Bill Gertz:
a. “The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their health care, while leaving unionized civilian defense worker’ benefits untouched.”
b. “Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges.”
c. “The disparity in treatment between civilians and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention.”
d. “Significantly, the plan calls for increases between 30 percent to
79 percent in Tricare annual premiums for the first year. After that, the plan will impose five-year increases ranging from 94 percent to 345 percent – more than three times current levels.”
e. “Reduce military pensions to a maximum of the National Poverty Level—-$14,000 per year—because most retired service members seek employment after retirement.”
f. “Prevent retired military from double-dipping. Block them from drawing both Social Security and Military retirement at the same time. And—this is the deal breaker—require disabled military to choose between Veteran’s Disability pension and retirement pension. They will no longer draw both.”
Currently he is entitled to free VA medical care and a pension. Obama is unconcerned and wants him to live in poverty and pay for his own medical care
Military service people are denied the equipment they need to do their jobs under Obama’s administration. But, according to the Obama administration, unionized civilian defense workers, sitting behind their comfortable desks in **Washington**, deserve better treatment than our heroes serving overseas in **Afghanistan** and elsewhere.
Obama is the guy who plans to cut medical care and benefits for soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen – all while preserving full benefits for Washington bureaucrats.
Men and women who put their lives on the line, who risked their health and well-being, are treated like second-class citizens in Obama’s World.
