Liberals hate Michigan’s Hillsdale College, which not only celebrates a decidedly conservative point of view, but also galls them by refusing to take government funding – which means they have no way of threatening Hillsdale and trying to force it to fall in line. It’s no surprise, then, those liberals and their media allies are trying to manufacture a scandal over Hillsdale President Larry Arnn’s use of the phrase “dark ones”. Arnn told a legislative committee at the state capital that bureaucrats from the Michigan Department of Education showed up at Hillsdale’s campus in 2000, wandering around with clipboards looking at the faces of students and writing down what they saw.“ What were they looking for besides dark ones?” Arnn was describing an action of state bureaucrats that was totally inappropriate – showing up on his campus with clipboards and counting how many black faces they saw. In the aftermath of Arnn’s testimony, the Michigan Department of Education denied this had ever taken place – until admitting yesterday that it did.Oh, by the way, conservative Hillsdale was the first private college in the nation to bar discrimination on the basis of race, sex or religion in its charter. The left is attacking you not because you said anything wrong – you didn’t – but because you lead a conservative institution that doesn’t take their money and can’t be controlled by them.
And don’t you dare wish anyone a happy birthday:
In Seattle, as Fox News reports. The term “citizens” is too offensive because of all the non-citizens living in the city, paying taxes, blah blah blah. And as for brown bags, well, if you say that you might as well be segregating drinking fountains and lunch counters, Mr. Grand Wizard. Elliott Bronstein of the city’s Office of Civil Rights explains to KIRO Radio:”For a lot of particularly African-American community members, the phrase brown bag does bring up associations with the past when a brown bag was actually used, I understand, to determine if people’s skin color was light enough to allow admission to an event or to come into a party that was being held in a private home,” And Bronstein doesn’t want you wishing anyone happy birthday either, because Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate birthdays, and you never know who might be within earshot so as to become offended.
Students expected to be well behaved … and alive. Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Arkansas – about 100 miles southwest of Little Rock – they won’t get far:Dougan is among more than 20 teachers, administrators and other school employees in this town who will carry concealed weapons throughout the school day, making use of a little-known Arkansas law that allows licensed, armed security guards on campus. After undergoing 53 hours of training, Dougan and other teachers at the school will be considered guards. Arkansas law allows for trained, armed security guards to be on site at schools, and there is nothing in the law that prevents the teachers themselves from doubling as the security guards.
Exploding the myth. Look for actual accomplishments on her record and find that there simply isn’t anything there. Hillary’s resume appears impressive until you realize a) she didn’t achieve anything of note in the positions she held; and b) she only got them in the first place for the purpose of positioning herself to run for president. You have to attack her weakness, and her weakness is that her entire career has been about resume-building for the purpose of running for president, and not about accomplishing anything for the public.
Remember the cap on out-of-pocket expenses? Not happening.
So instead, they just go drip by-painstaking-drip, delaying one provision after another. The latest is the cap on out-of-pocket expense, which was a horrible idea, by the way, and now will merely loom rather than taking effect before 2015-
Obamacare contains a blizzard of mandates and regulations that will make health insurance more costly. One of the most significant is its caps on out of pocket insurance cost, such as co-pays and deductibles. Section 2707 (b) of the public health service act requires that a “group health plan insurance and a health insurer offering group or individual health insurance coverage may not establish lifetime limits on the dollar value of benefits for the any participants or beneficiary. “annual limits on cost-sharing are specified by section 1302c of ACA in addition, starting in 2014 deductibles are limited to $2000 per year for individuals plans and $4000 per year for family plans. Federal officials said that many insurers and employers needed more time to comply because they used separate companies to help administer major medical coverage and drug benefits with separate limits on out of pocket costs. In many cases the companies have separate computer systems that cannot communicate with one another”. “we had to balance the interests of consumers with the concerns of health plan sponsors and carriers. They asked for mere time to comply”. Chronic condition, in which cases you may benefit from the fact that law forces healthy people to subsidize your care. It’s yet another reason to drop out of the insurance market altogether for rational businesses, it’s a reason to self-insure, in order to get out from under these costly mandates. The huge, overarching problem with all that it tries to put a square peg in a round hole by mandating, by law, economic conditions that are impossible under economic reality. People with pre-existing conditions can’t be turned down for =coverage and can’t be made to pay more, but in order to do that they have to force people who don’t want or need insurance to buy it anyway. They try to force employers to cover people only to find that employers change their hiring practices t avoid the extra costs. The mandate isn’t workable so it’s delayed. The eligibility standards for subsides aren’t workable, so they’re changed to the honor system or if you work for congress, waived altogether. It’s a classic case of politicians believing they can make something happen just by writing a law that says it must happen, without any notion of how rational actors in the real world will react to their decree.
